The Waterman Programs are run entirely on the Gold Coast of Australia – the centre of the world surf scene. The main components of the Programs will be in Currumbin and Coolangatta with some components are other locations on the Coast. There will be some time to spare for free surfing our many exceptional point and beach breaks along the Gold Coast and for those more adventurous, the Tweed and Northern NSW Coasts have a abundance of wave choices in close proximity but requiring a car or bus. However during the days through the week, there is a large amount of material that needs to be covered. Your Instructors are there to help and assist you all of the way and feel free to ask them any questions or for any issues that you need assistance with.

The Lifeguard, Surf Instructor and Pro Waterman Courses run concurrently.

The first week of the course is dedicated to the ocean rescue training for the Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue) and Bronze Medallion. This includes theory and practical as well as fitness sessions that revolve around the aquatic activities being trained.

The weekend is allocated to basically free time after a fairly solid first week of the course. There will be some first aid material needed to be completed prior to the first aid course on the Wednesday.

The second week sees a bit of a split in programs for those doing the different Programs. For those doing the Lifeguard Program, Monday and Tuesday are fairly relaxed with only a single skills session each day either early morning or late afternoon to practice and train the required ocean skills for surf rescues and negotiating the surf zone with paddle boards, rescue boards, rescue tubes and swimming. Those doing the Pro Waterman Program will also do these sessions. For the Surf Instructors and the Pro Watermen, the week begins with the 2 Day ISA Surf Instructor Course which are another two solid days of work.

Wednesday sees the group back together to complete the one day First Aid Course. Please note if a participant has not completed the pre course work, that person will be ineligible to sit for the face to face day. There will not be another chance to complete the First Aid Course in this program so it is vital that everyone completes the pre course work.

Thursday sees the Lifeguards and Pro Watermen doing their Boat and Jet Ski license. The Surf Instructors have the opportunity to begin to accumulate some practical coaching hours required for their Surf Instructor qualification.

Friday is the final day for the Lifeguards and last formal day of sessions for the Pro Watermen and Surf Instructors. On this day, the Advanced Resuscitation and Defibrillation Certificates are undertaken.

On Saturday, the Lifeguards have completed their full Program.

For the Surf Instructors and Pro Watermen there is one week remaining to give the option and opportunity of completing some or all of their 20 hours of practical surf instructing to finalise their Instructor Course in this third week. There is no requirement that these hours must be done immediately, there are 12 months to complete them but are a requirement to finish the course and receive the ISA Surf Instructor qualification.

Your Instructors are passionate about the courses they run and each have a huge amount of experience to pass on and knowledge to teach you. We are determined to ensure each and every participant is given the greatest opportunity to show competency in all areas but it does require a concerted effort and work output from all participants
